The Joy Set Before

The Joy Set Before
Hebrews 12:2
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
1. The Joy set before Jesus
2. Where grief fits into Joy
3. The Joy set before us

1) The Joy set before Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2: “For the joy set before Him He endured the cross.”
We take communion to remember Jesus. What do we see?

Matthew 26: 36-44
Luke 22 says: “43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.”
How could joy, be in that moment?
What joy?

2) Where Grief fits into Joy
If there was so much joy coming, why was there grief beforehand?
Why do we think that just because we know joy is coming, we should be happy, and without sorrow?

John 11:1-44
Again, why did Jesus weep?
His faith was not weakened in his tears.
If it is true for Jesus, how is it not true for us? We, in full faith can believe God is going to fulfill his promises, yet feel the sadness and weight of the promise not yet being fulfilled. Real grief, and real faith can coexist together. There is no condemnation in tears and in sadness in the waiting.

Why weep though? If Joy is coming at the next spoken word, why feel the pain?

Psalms 84:6 says: “As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs;”
The Amplified Version Says: “Passing through the Valley of Weeping ([a]Baca), they make it a place of springs;”
Please pass though – don’t camp out!
Psalms 126:5 & Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are they that morn They will be comforted.”

When we invest the time to let our pain come forth to the forefront of our emotions, Jesus will birth and grow in us Joy. Plant your seeds of tears, and trust, like the farmer does, Jesus will bring to life sheaves of joy.

Jeremiah 31:8-9 & 13 There is a great exchange. The exchange is joy for sorrow. We come home, when we return to Jesus in our tears.

3) The Joy Set Before Us
1 Corinthians 9:24 “Run in such a way as to get the prize.”
What is this prize we are winning?
Where is your focus?
