Men of Courage: Mother’s Day 2021

Men of Courage: Mother’s Day 2021

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

  • If we can understand how Christ loved the church, then we will know how to love and lead well at home.
  1. His love was sacrificial Matt 20: 26
  • He gave everything he had for the church. Christ’s love looked sacrificial.
  • Men serve your wife sacrificially. In fact your wife should be your greatest point of sacrifice.
  1. His love was courageous
  • He was leading courageously all the way to the cross. He could have turned back.
  • As men we need to lead with this same level of courage.
    • We need to lead courageously toward the cross. Spiritually
    • There is nothing less manly then being on the fence.
  1. His love fought against injustice John 8
  • The Pharisees caught a woman in adultery and brought her to Jesus and demanded that she be stoned.
    • Jesus saw the injustice in what they were doing and He quickly took care of it.
  • For us today we need to courageously fight against all forms of injustice against women.
  • But we all also need to fight any injustice in our own homes.
    • There is no women who ever deserves to be treated like a slave, like a servant, like a play thing, talked down to, demeaned.
  1. His love fought for honor John 19:25
  • Even while hanging on the cross Jesus still acts courageously to protect the honor of his mother.
  1. His love was not selfish Mark 5:24.
  • Jesus took the time to seek her out so that he could speak over her, bless her and end her suffering.
  1. His love was quick to forgive and point toward grace. Luke 23:32
  • Jesus is hanging on the cross with insults and shame coming from every direction.
    • Yet His courageous love says, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”
  1. His love always provided for
  • He was always looking to take care of and provide for.
  • Perhaps most important he provided for the church for all time by sending the Holy Spirit.
  • Men, our love should always provide for, financially, emotionally, and spiritually.
  1. His love always led well and did the right thing. The sinful woman and Matt 17:24-27
  • Jesus led well and did the right thing even when that wasn’t what he really wanted to do.
  1. His love always taught and lead spiritually
  • Jesus never passed a crowd without taking the time to teach them a lesson.
    • Jesus really invested into the 12 and then the three Peter, James, and John.
  • Men this starts at home for us. Speak into your children’s lives. Greatest opportunity for discipleship.
